The Youth MOVE Peer Center
With funding support from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Youth MOVE National (YMN) will be offering new programs through the new YMN Consumer TA Center (Y-TAC) which will launch July 1, 2020. Across the country, recovery-oriented services and consumer run organizations, including youth and family- run organizations, are increasingly seen as vital supports within the mental health service system. YMN understands the value of lived experience and of peer-operated services and supports as a part of the treatment system for youth and young adults with mental health challenges. This opportunity will allow YMN to expand its programming to support individuals with lived experiences and the mental health field to promote better outcomes for people experiencing mental health challenges. SAMHSA is funding four additional National Consumer TA Centers, and YMN looks forward to collaborating with all awardees to build the capacity of the current and future peer workforce, peer-run organizations, including youth-run programs, and mental health agencies seeking to integrate peer services into the service array. The new Y-TAC will maximize YMN’s expertise in youth engagement and positive youth development to support young people, youth-run programs and organizations, and other service providers to improve implementation and enhance the integration of peer-led initiatives across the country. The Y-TAC will serve peers across the lifespan, with an emphasis on building the personal and professional capacity of youth and young adults who are the future of the mental health workforce. The Y-TAC’s approach is to ensure the growth and development of recovery organizations and to support traditional mental health programs better understand nontraditional approaches to care and recovery.
The Y-TAC will:
• Offer a tiered menu of training and technical assistance to support peer-run organizations, provider organizations, and the mental health system in the successful planning, implementation, and sustainability of recovery services
• Offer annual learning community opportunities for distinct cohorts to address prioritized topic areas and audiences
• Develop both online and in-person training opportunities for consumers, providers, the peer workforce, and CROs
• Create products, including issue briefs and implementation guides
• Provide responsive individualized training and technical assistance to individuals, the peer workforce, CROs, provider agencies, and local and state level mental health leadership
